An Independent Coffee Publication · Satire, Criticism & Field Tests

Grounds for Treason

Dissent Is Brewing.

Coffee is a craft. Somewhere along the way, a section of the industry decided it was a costume instead.

Grounds for Treason is an independent publication about coffee, the people who sell it, and the widening gap between the two. We review products, take apart advertising, run field tests, and write criticism. Some of it is reporting. A lot of it is satire. We tell you which is which, every time, with a label at the top of the page.

What we cover

Marketing that promises character and delivers a stale medium roast. Packaging that spends more on the graphic designer than the green buyer. Brand films with more explosions than tasting notes. Subscription programmes designed to be hard to leave. And, when it is warranted, coffee that is genuinely good, because a publication that only ever complains is just noise.

What we do not do

  • We do not attack military service, veterans, employees, or customers. The target is marketing, not people.
  • We do not publish allegations we cannot support. Rumour is labelled Unverified or it does not run.
  • We do not invent facts about real companies. Satire exaggerates what is already on the record. It does not manufacture a record.
  • We do not hide money. Commercial relationships and affiliate links are disclosed on the page where they appear.

Pen names

Our writers publish under editorial aliases. The personas are part of the publication’s presentation and are openly fictional. We do not attach fabricated military records, credentials, employers, or biographies to them. Every author page says plainly that the name is a pen name.

Satire and disclosure

Everything on this site is satirical in nature. We criticise brands across the industry and link out to their content and products when it is relevant to the argument. Where a piece carries an affiliate link or any other commercial arrangement, it is disclosed on that page. Read the Commercial and Affiliate Disclosure before you decide how much weight to give any recommendation here.
