If we get a fact wrong, we fix it in the open. We do not quietly edit the page and hope nobody kept a screenshot.
How we handle it
Correction. A factual error. We fix the text, tag the article Correction, and add a note at the foot showing what it said before, what it says now, and the date.
Clarification. Accurate but open to being misread. We sharpen the wording and note the change.
Update. New information has overtaken the piece. We add it, tag the article Updated, and date the addition. Original text stays.
Retraction. The central claim does not hold. The article is marked retracted at the top, the reason is stated, and the page stays up. We do not delete our mistakes.
What counts as an error
A wrong price, date, specification, quotation, attribution, or test result is an error and we will correct it. A joke you did not find funny, or a verdict you disagree with, is not an error. You are welcome to argue with us about either, and we will publish a good argument.
Reporting one
Use Contact. Include the article, the specific claim, and where the correct information can be verified. We aim to respond within five working days and to correct clear factual errors as soon as we have confirmed them.
Every corrected article is collected under the Correction tag.
